DISCIPLE is an international training for students that aims to develop the scientific presentation skills of the students. It begins by evaluating the current level of public speaking abilities by presenting an abstract, and is then structured in multiple courses and workshops.

Eligibility criteria

We are welcoming research abstracts on any public health topic or regarding any social, economic, administrative issues with implications for health, the healthcare system and healthcare professionals. That is why Public Health 2nd DISCIPLE is targeting all the students interested in the public health field, encouraging medical, veterinary, psychology, sociology, social work, public administration, communication students, and other related specializations students to submit an abstract for our conference. Students/ young researchers are defined as participants enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate educational program, that did not receive a doctoral degree before the conference day.

In order to further expand the international network of shared knowledge and methodologies in public health, you will be asked to recommend at least two scholars or practitioners as reviewers. Thus, the abstract submission form will require you to provide the contacts of two public health researchers and practitioners who will receive an invitation to be part in the International Expert Committee of this conference.  Please note that the persons you recommend will not review your work, but other participants’ abstracts.

Abstract guidelines

When submitting your abstract make sure to follow these guidelines:

  1. The abstract body should not exceed 3000 characters, including spaces
  2. The abstract body must include the following information:
    • Background
    • Hypotheses & objectives
    • Methodology
    • Results
    • Limitations
    • Implications for the future
  3. Do not include references

Evaluation criteria

The Scientific Committee will review all submitted abstracts according to the following criteria:

  1. Is the topic regarding a current issue in public health?
  2. Is the design of the study appropriate?
  3. Have the data been collected?
  4. Are there (preliminary) results?
  5. Does the study provide new insight in the field?

Registration

The presenting authors of accepted abstracts are required to pay the registration fee (15€) and register by April 30. In order to register for the conference, participants must pay the conference fee (payment form here) and then register by filling in this registration form.

Video submission

After the registration, you will have to submit the video presentation by May 1 making sure to follow these guidelines:

  1. The presentation will be 5-minutes long and it will be recorded in a place of your choice
  2. It is mandatory to make sure your face can be seen
  3. You can use whatever materials as support to do your presentation (including PowerPoint presentations or notes / papers / charts)
  4. It is recommended to submit a video in *.mp4 format, but other formats are accepted as well
  5. The quality of the video must be 720p HD or higher.
